Daewoo shipbuilding: the world's first LNG transport icebreaker completes the icebreaker

       The world's first LNG transport icebreaker, the Christophe DE Margerie, has been tested in the North Pole by the south Korean shipbuilding giant daewoo shipbuilding and Marine engineering corporation (DSME).

       Daewoo shipbuilding said the ship was built for Russia's Sovcomflot shipyard and left the shipyard in November last year to transport 173,600 cubic metres of LNG, which cost about $320 million.

       In January, the ship docked at the zebru LNG terminal and passed a series of tests. These include cooling cargo ships and small amounts of LNG, which were tested for ice performance on the Yamal peninsula in Siberia before sea.

       Daewoo shipbuilding said the ship will be built to serve the Yamal LNG project in Russia, and has completed its experimental mission in the ice area of the arctic ocean, which is 2.1 meters thick.

       It will serve the Yamal LNG with Belgium Russian Fluxys 20-year agreement, each year will be 8 million tons of LNG gas from Siberia to the Belgian port of zeebrugge, ensure that the year of LNG transferred to Asia Pacific market.

       There will be 15 similar vessels serving the Yamal LNG project, which will carry out a regular transhipment operation with the traditional liquefied natural gas carrier at the zebru LNG terminal.
